Price Match Policies: Amazon, Walmart, Best Buy and Target Compared

Most major retailers will match a competitor's price — but the rules vary. Here's exactly how to price match at each store.

Price matching is one of the easiest ways to save money — you find a lower price, show it to the retailer, and they match it. But the policies vary significantly between stores.

Best Buy

Best Buy has the most generous price match policy of the major retailers. They'll match prices from Amazon, Walmart, Target, Costco, and other major competitors both online and in-store. The match applies at the time of purchase and for 15 days after.

What they won't match: Marketplace sellers on Amazon (third-party), membership-only prices like Costco, and prices that require a coupon code.

Walmart

Walmart price matches competitor prices in-store but not online. Take your phone into a Walmart store showing the lower price and the associate will adjust it.

What they match: Amazon, Target, Best Buy, and other national retailers. The item must be identical — same brand, model, color, and size.

Target

Target price matches both in-store and online. They also have a 14-day price adjustment policy — if an item you bought goes on sale within 14 days at Target or a competitor, they'll refund the difference.

Amazon

Amazon does not officially price match competitors. However, they have a price adjustment policy — if an item you bought on Amazon drops in price within 30 days, you can request a refund of the difference.

The Smartest Approach

Rather than price matching after the fact, use CheapestFinder before you buy to see all prices at once. If Best Buy is $20 cheaper than Amazon, just buy from Best Buy.
